A complaint of sexual misconduct or harassment may be the motive that drove a Navy man to kill his co-worker in front of her husband Tuesday, according to the victim's acquaintances and investigators who asked not to be identified.
Police on Thursday said Quincy Brown attacked Eddie and Elise Makdessi as the couple returned from dinner to their Windsor Oaks area apartment.
Eddie Makdessi was only slightly hurt, but his wife's throat was slit, according to a source close to the investigation.
Eddie Makdessi fatally shot his wife's attacker and called police.
Police and rescue workers found Elise Makdessi on the bed in the apartment's master bedroom. Brown was found dead on the floor near the bed. He died from several gunshot wounds. Elise Makdessi died on the way to a hospital, investigators said.
A Navy spokesman said Brown and Elise Makdessi knew each other and were co-workers at Oceana Naval Air Station. Elise Makdessi was an air-traffic controller. Brown worked in a supply department.
A joint investigation by city police and Navy authorities is centering on what motivated Brown to show up at the Makdessis' home Tuesday night and wait for them to return.
``The matter is still under investigation to determine what actually happened,'' said Wayne Bailey, special agent in charge of Norfolk's Naval Criminal Investigative Service office. ``To offer conjecture or speculation as to what the motives may have been would be very, very premature. We're pursuing a lot of leads associated with the investigation.''
Police spokesman Mike Carey said Thursday that the husband, Eddie Makdessi, is not facing charges and none is expected.
Bailey said Elise Makdessi had not filed any formal complaints with his office concerning Brown, but said there were other places such a complaint could have been made.
Bailey said he ``didn't have any established facts'' to show problems between Brown and Elise Makdessi, but he declined to say if he had heard any allegations.
Elise Makdessi was 31 and had recently moved to the Lakefront Circle apartment, just off Windsor Oaks Boulevard, with her 32-year-old husband.
Brown, 37, lived in the 700 block of Westminster Lane in Great Neck.
