Albert F. Helms Sr., 72, of the 4500 block of Bankhead Ave., died May 17, 1996, in a local hospital.
He retired as a fire fighter from the city of Norfolk after 37 years of service. He was a native of Norfolk and a Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie V. Helms; two daughters, Murial Hancock of Norfolk, Bonnell Langhorne of Elizabeth City, N.C.; two sons, Albert F. Helms Jr. of Virginia Beach, John E. Wisner III of Grovetown, Ga.; sister, Bonnell Evanson of Fairmont, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.
