Mrs. Margaret Drury Wright Meroney, wife of Raymond Meroney, died Thursday, May 16, 1996, at home.
She was born in Portsmouth and was a resident of the Virginia Peninsula, Hampton and Newport News, since 1943. Mrs. Meroney was a graduate of the College of William and Mary, and did postgraduate studies at the University of Virginia. She was a member of the honor society Phi Beta Kappa, Eta Sigma Phi, Phi Kappa Phi, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a former president of the American Association of University Women. She was a librarian at Portsmouth Public Library, assistant librarian at the City of Warwick Public Library. She was librarian and teacher with school systems in Danville, Salem, Norfolk County, and Newport News. She was active in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sunday School Ministry, and Commission Ministry. She was a former president of St. Paul's Church Women.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Star Meroney Wolven and Allen E. Wolven Jr.; two granddaughters, Britt Star Wolven and Blair Allen Wolven; and a grandson, Todd Meroney Wolven III.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 221 34th St., Newport News. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Flower Fund.
