MARY L. SMITH

Mary Lillie Smith, of the 900 block of Briar Hill Road, died May 16, 1996, in Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital.

She was a native of Scotland Neck, N.C., and a member of Rehoboth Church, Chesapeake, where she was also a member of the Pastor's Aid Society.

She is survived by her husband, Samuel Smith Sr.; eight daughters, Barbara Smith, Patricia Yarbrough, both of Maryland, Jacqueline Johnson, Susie Alexander and Robin Smith, all of Washington, D.C., Cynthia Tennail of Memphis, Tenn., Carolyn Smith and Regina Smith, both of Norfolk; six sons, Samuel Smith Jr. of Yorktown, Navy Chief Kelvin Smith Sr. of Suffolk, Navy Senior Chief Tony Smith of Norfolk, Darryle Smith Sr., of Laurel, Md., Michael Smith Sr. and William Smith Sr., both of Washington, D.C.; 35 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two very dear friends, Ethel Melton and Jessie Taylor of Norfolk; and many other surviving relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday by the Rev. Dr. Horace Pratt in Rehoboth Church, Chesapeake. Burial is in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Fitchett Funeral Home is in charge.
