Gussie Amelson, 88, of the 700 block of Baldwin Ave., died May 17, 1996, in Norfolk General Hospital.
Ms. Amelson had retired from Jewish Family Services after 25 years of service. She was a native of Portsmouth and was a member of Congregation Beth El in Norfolk.
Survivors include two sisters, Lily Amelson Solov and Anne Amelson, both of Norfolk; four nieces, Frances Amelson Keller and her husband, Joseph, of Norfolk, Retta Leigh Amelson Kunin and her husband, Seymour, of Boca Raton, Fla., Emmy Lou Kreger and her husband, Arthur, of Norfolk, and Barnett Amelson Silbert and her husband, Mendel, of Maryland; a nephew, Marvin Amelson, and his wife, Millie, of Ohio; and several other nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Sunday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Rabbi Arthur Ruberg and Cantor Jacob Tessler. The family will receive friends at the Algonquin House in Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Jewish Family Services or a charity of choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel, is handling the arrangements.
