A woman was arrested Friday and charged with setting the fire that swept three Brambleton-area homes and displaced six people last week, said Jack Goldhorn, a spokesman for fire and paramedical services.
Dorothy McKinney, 27, of the 700 block of Maltby Ave., was charged with arson and threatening to burn the buildings. She was being held in the Norfolk City Jail.
The two-alarm fire occurred May 11 in the 1300 block of E. Olney Road. Investigators said the blaze erupted on the first floor of one building and spread quickly to the other buildings. Two people lived in each building. No one was injured.
Arcelious White, who owned two of the houses, said he had argued with McKinney about her being on the property the night before the fire. He said the woman threatened to burn down the house, but he did not think she would carry it out.
