The Jewish Community Center of Tidewater will celebrate the establishment of Jerusalem as Israel's capital 3,000 years ago with a special festival today at Mount Trashmore.
Fun for all ages is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the park. Activities will include a petting zoo, dancing, rides, games, a Jerusalem 3K walking tour, food and crafts.
Middle Eastern music by ESTA and a live camel roaming the grounds will give park visitors a taste of Israeli life.
``We will have representatives from other religious communities coming together to offer greetings to celebrate the anniversary of Jerusalem being the capital of ancient Israel,'' said Jody Mazur, cultural arts director at the Jewish Community Center.
The activities will be moved to the Pavilion if it rains.
The schedule of events includes:
11 a.m. - food and crafts open.
Noon - rides, games and petting zoo open and live musical performances begin.
12:30 p.m. - U-8 soccer game.
1 p.m. - Opening ceremonies.
1:30 p.m. - U-10 soccer game.
1:45 p.m. - ESTA in concert.
2 p.m. - U-14 soccer game.
2:30 p.m. - Israeli dancing performed by the International Folk Dancing Club of Virginia Beach.
3 p.m. - Virginia's largest ``Hora.''
3:15 p.m. - Janeeda and the Near East Dance Ensemble performs.
3:30 p.m. - Adult soccer game.
3:45 p.m. - ``Mr. Belly Dancing'' championships.
