FRANKLIN TEENAGER BOWLS HIS WAY TO STATE RECORD IN LEAGUE SERIES

Fifteen-year-old Trent Lowe of Franklin has put himself in the state record book with a powerful 813 league series.

This is believed to be the highest series ever by a 15-year-old in league play in Virginia.

A spokesman for the Young American Bowling Alliance at ABC headquarters in Greendale, Wisc., said they have no record of any higher league series by a Virginia youth.

Competing in the Holy Rollers Tenpin League at Franklin Bowling Center, Lowe backed up games of 265, 269 and 279. This is a junior/adult church league.

He barely missed the Franklin center's three-game house record for all bowlers - 824 by Gerald Wiggins.

Trent was 75 pins off the national YABA record of 888.

Trent, a righthander who is an eighth-grader at Franklin High School, notched 32 strikes and four spares in his series.

A 194-average bowler who also competes in the Saturday YABA Major Thunderbolts League, where he averages 200, Trent now stands in fifth place on the all-time YABA series list throughout the nation.

The series earned Trent two national awards (game and series) and four local awards (75 over average game, 150 over average series, 6 pack for six strikes in a row and an all-mark game). Trent has selected a ring for his national award.

Needless to say, Lowe gained Bowler of the Week honors in the area.

Alan Glasgow is Lowe's YABA coach at the Franklin center. ``I am extremely proud of his accomplishment,'' said Glasgow.

Glasgow also has been informed one of his youth teams, composed of Lowe, Chris Swarmer and Michael Weston, has posted the second highest game (827) and second best series (2,181) this year nationally in the Major 3-Player division.
