MOTHER NATURE OFFERS BETTER WEATHER FOR FESTIVAL-GOERS

Mother Nature proved accommodating Friday and Saturday for the 14th annual Chesapeake Jubilee.

Organizers were worried at the beginning of the week when the forecast called for rain. But by Friday night the skies cleared, the mud dried and people started gathering at the site grounds off Greenbrier Parkway.

Eight-year-old Alex Denison showed up at the event Saturday with her godmother, Ruth Wiles.

``This is my third jubilee so I know a lot about it,'' said Denison, a student at Great Bridge Primary. ``I like the Ferris Wheel the best but I also like to watch the dogs at the 4-H tent.''

In keeping with the event's family focus, organizers booked face painters, magicians, mimes and family-style musical acts throughout the weekend.

Today's main musical act is country singer Aaron Tippin.

Event coordinators said they expect approximately 150,000 to visit the jubilee during its three-day run, which wraps up today.

The event is free and shuttle buses are available for $2 per person round-trip at the Great Bridge Civic Center and at the former Volvo Plant. MEMO: TODAY'S SCHEDULE
