CAREER TRACK

BANKING

Edward E. Cunningham, president and chief executive officer of Life Bancorp Inc. and Life Savings Bank, was named to the additional post of chairman of the Norfolk thrift holding company and its subsidiary. William J. Fanney, the previous chairman, has been designated chairman emeritus of Life Bancorp and Life Savings.

Clyde E. McFarland Jr. was appointed senior vice president and chief financial officer of Harbor Bank in Newport News. McFarland, a certified public accountant, was most recently comptroller for Commerce Bank in Virginia Beach.

BAKING

Richard A. McCombs was named president of Flowers Baking Co. in Norfolk. McCombs replaces Joseph Tashie who was appointed president of Flowers' bakery in Tuscaloosa, Ala. McCombs was most recently vice president of Flowers' bakery in Bradenton, Fla.

ENGINEERING

Lisa Billow was named a senior staff ecologist at Espey Huston & Assoc. in Newport News. She will be preparing environmental reports and permits to fulfill the requirements of local, state and federal environmental regulatory programs for projects in transportation, municipal planning, utilities and public works. She was an ecologist with Hayes Seay Mattern & Mattern in Virginia Beach.

William S. M'Coy was promoted from associate to senior associate at Malcolm Pirnie in Newport News. He has been with the firm for more than 10 years. He has been responsibile for design of several municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities in Virginia, North Carolina and Kentucky, focusing on advanced processes such as biological nutrient removal technologies.

Edward F. Rogers III was promoted to an associate at Malcolm Pirnie. He has been with the company for five years and was previously a senior air quality specialist. Rogers is a chemical engineer with more than 10 years of air quality engineering and management experience especially on chemical plants and wastewater treatment facilities.

HEALTH CARE

Linda L. Forehand was named senior development associate in the office of development at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk. She'll concentrate on major gifts and planned giving for the $62 million EVMS Campaign for the Next Century. She has coordinated special events and developed fund-raising concepts since 1988. She was the former director of development for the Virginia Stage Company in Norfolk.

Richard S. Foster, president of Baymark Construction Corp. in Virginia Beach, was appointed to the board of visitors of the Medical College of Hampton Roads. Virginia Beach City Councial named Foster to represent the city on the board, which is the governing body of Eastern Virginia Medical School. His three-year term will begin June 1. Foster succeeds council appointee Jane K. Eilertsen, who served two three-year terms.

LAW

The Virginia Beach law firm of Pender & Coward elected Lynn K. Tiedge as a shareholder of the firm. She joined the firm in 1989 and practices in the areas of insurance defense and civil litigation.

MEDIA

Eric Watt was named international vice president at the Christian Broadcasting Network in Virginia Beach. Watt's primary focus will be on the strategic planning and implementation of World Reach, CBN's international project. It intends to attract 500 million to Christianity in the next five years. Prior to this, he lived in Singapore, where he was president and founder of Reaching Unreached Nations, a ministry with bases in 15 nations from North Africa to China.

ORGANIZATIONS

Joan Rhodes-Copeland was installed as the 1996-97 coastal region coordinator of the Virginia Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs. The coastal region includes Hampton Roads, Surry County and Richmond. She is director of evening programs at ECPI College of Technology in Virginia Beach.
