CORPORATE DONATIONS

The Virginia Opera said Norfolk Southern Corp. has donated more than $1.2 million over the past 10 years. The VOA presented Norfolk Southern with the first annual Opera American Bravo Award for outstanding corporate support for the Southeastern region.

George Dragas Jr. and Marcus Dragas received the philanthropic Batten Award at Old Dominion University for their gifts of $400,000. The funds helped establish the Dragas International Center, which houses the office of international programs including its study abroad, international admissions and international student and scholar services units. Their financial support also helped develop the Hellenic Studies endowment. George Dragas Jr. is chief executive officer and Marcus Dragas is president of the Dragas Companies in Virginia Beach.

HONORS, AWARDS

Wiley & Wilson, an architectural, engineering and planning firm headquartered in Lynchburg with branch offices in Richmond and Chesapeake, was recognized as the state winner of the National Quality Initiative Achievement Award for its efforts in designing the Powell Valley Project, two and a half miles of Route 23 in Wise County, Va. The award, one of eight being presented in the United States and the first of its kind.

Business bankruptcies filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Norfolk:

Brandon Totten Schlatter and Tammy Lynn Schlatter, also known as Ace Paintmaster, filed chapter 7 liquidation on May 7 with assets of $9,165.00 and liabilities of $47,185.79.

Kirk Wright Nelson, publisher of Wright Publishing, filed chapter 7 liquidation on May 7 with assets of $9,296.45 and liabilities of $46,508.08.

Paul G. Snyder and Debra A. Snyder, previously known as The Gumbo Shop, filed Chapter 13 debt repayment plan on May 8 with assets of $98,835 and liabilities of $95,929.31.

Bradtree Inc., trading as Latin Knights restaurant/lounge, filed Chapter 7 liquidation on May 8 with no assets and $600,133 in liabilities.

Peter Thomas Cappiello, realtor, filed Chapter 7 liquidation on May 9 with assets of $52,426 and liabilities of $76,064.52.

27th & Atlantic Corp., a holding corporation, filed Chapter 11 reorganization on May 9 with assets of $235,000 and liabilities of $258,500.

Michael Gene Clapper and Carol Jean Clapper, auto repair, filed Chapter 7 liquidation on May 10 with assets of $9,820 and liabilities of $50,200.14.

CLARIFICATION: Ronald Ray Crum filed an individual Chapter 7 bankruptcy, but the bankruptcy filing erroneously was filed as a business affiliation with Whisper Entertainment. The bankruptcy file has been amended. Whisper Entertainment's name should not have appeared with that listing.

Also, Clarence Henry Petzold and Sylvia Sydney Petzold filed Chapter 7 under their name personally. Their business, Holland Corp., trading as Yots Diner, did not file bankruptcy.
