David Powell Jr., 69, of Clearwater Drive, died Saturday, May 18, 1996, at UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.
He was born Dec. 1, 1926, in Duplin County to the late David Arthur Powell and Emma Johnson Powell. He served in the Navy during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge (NU)131, Norfolk.
Survivors include his wife, Frances West Powell; three daughters, Dava Marie Abbott of Wake Forest, Sara Lynn Lucas of Puerto Rico, and Susan Denise Benson of Rocky Mount; a sister, Maybelle Rivenbark of Mount Olive; a brother, Alton Powell of Goldsboro; and five beautiful grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Rogers & Breece Funeral Home by the Rev. Johnson Gumpton and the Rev. William Davis. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
