Lt. Col. John W. Hasten, USA (Ret.), 82, of Virginia Beach, died May 17, 1996, in Norfolk.
He was born in Kansas City, Mo., and was a Protestant. He was retired from the Army after 22 years and was also retired from civil service after 12 years. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea and was a member of the Retired Officers Association. He was a graduate of American University, Springfield, Mass.
Survivors include his wife, Jean M. Hasten; two daughters, Nancy Mason and Lois M. Large, both of Virginia Beach; three sons, Jack Hasten of Norfolk, Walter C. McDaniel III of South Korea and Robert F. McDaniel of Cartersville, Ga.; six grandchildren, Susan Watkins, Emily Mason, Kara Large and Matthew Large, all of Virginia Beach, Mark Hasten and Todd Hasten, both of Norfolk; and a great-grandchild, Kyle Watkins of Virginia Beach. He was predeceased by a sister, Bessie Quinn and a brother, Robert Hasten.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30 in Fort Myers Chapel with burial in Arlington National Cemetery. The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 21. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lynnhaven United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 1033 Little Neck Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23452.
