ROCK-THROWING COMPLAINT LEADS TO FIGHT, 2 ARRESTS; DOG IS KILLED

Two people - one a teenager - were jailed on Sunday and a dog was shot and killed by police after officers investigating a report of people throwing rocks at cars were attacked.

Three officers were injured.

Larry Hill, a police spokesman, said officers were called to the 1100 block of Bland St. near Five Points at about midnight Saturday after someone called to report that cars were being damaged by thrown rocks.

``The officers went to interview people at the house when someone came by and pointed out one of the residents as supposedly being involved'' in the rock throwing, Hill said.

Within moments, two of the people police were questioning began fighting with the officers.

During the fight, another person at the home unleashed a dog that also attacked police, Hill said. An officer shot and killed it.

Additional police units were called to the scene to assist, but three officers were hurt, Hill said. All suffered cuts and bruises. Only one was taken to a hospital. No civilians were hurt, Hill said.

Antonio Ward, 20, who lived at the house, and a 15-year-old resident whose name was not released because of his age were charged with assault on a police officer and obstruction of justice.
