MURDER RATE DROPS, THANKS TO NRA

Regarding the May 6 report headlined ``Nation's murder rate dropped 8 percent in '95'': I would like to aggressively point out that the author (Knight-Ridder News Service, reporter's name unknown) failed to acknowledge the real reason for this nationwide drop in the murder rate.

What might that be, you ask? Simple. Across this nation, state by state, the biggest enemy of liberalism - the National Rifle Association - has launched a successful groundswell of support for the passage and enactment of concealed-carry-permit laws designed to allow law-abiding citizens to protect themselves and their families from the nation's predators.

The criminal element is, for the most part, a cowardly pack of predatory individuals who thrive when preying upon defenseless citizens, knowing full well that should they be apprehended, the penalties for their crimes will be minimal - thanks to the gutless liberals who've controlled this country for the past 40 years.

A case in point: I read about a fellow who beat and killed his girlfriend the other day. The Virginian-Pilot reported his conviction by jury as if ``finally justice was done!'' You've got to be kidding! That guy was sentenced to five years for murder, and this pathetic liberal newspaper considers that justice?

One final point. The article reported that just five major cities - New York, Houston, Chicago, San Antonio, New Orleans and Detroit - accounted for nearly 40 percent of the total reduction in murders last year. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the voters of New York fire the King of Liberalism, Mario Cuomo, recently? Didn't the voters of Texas and Governor Bush recently pass a concealed-carry-permit law - one that former liberal Governor Richards opposed?

As for the other cities, I suspect that the murder rates might have dropped because the potential victims are moving out of those cities that are still being run by liberals and into areas that have strong, conservative, pro-NRA, anti-criminal leadership!
