Annie Elizabeth ``Liz'' Askew, 71, of the 2700 block of Colonial Dr., died May 20, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital after a battle with lung cancer.
Mrs. Askew, a native of Portsmouth, was retired from the General Electric plant as an inspector and tester after 19 years. She had formerly worked as a curb girl at The Circle Restaurant in Portsmouth for 20 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was the widow of Lowell Earl Askew.
Survivors include two daughters, Margaret E. Williamson, and her husband, Richard of Suffolk, Gloria A. Merritt, and her husband, David of Portsmouth; five grandchildren and their spouses, Dennis and Kim Williamson of Virginia Beach, Jerry and Kathy Williamson of Suffolk, Donna L. Turner of Carrollton, Rick and Kristy Williamson of Suffolk, Angel and Carroll Richard of Chesapeake; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Rhoda Sowa of Suffolk; and two brothers, Sonny Cross of Suffolk, and George Barnes of East Longmeadow, Mass.
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Meadowbrook Mausoleum Chapel by the Rev. Philip Parker and Rev. Tom Potter. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel, and other times at 2865 N. Nansemond Dr. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Va.
