Nancy Bush Lawson, 56, of the 1200 block of Bruton Lane, died May 18, 1996, in her residence.
Mrs. Lawson was a native of Norfolk. She was a graduate of the Holton Arms School and Duke University, a founding member of The Tidewater Virginia Chapter of the Embroiders' Guild of America, and the author of several books and instructional studies covering various needlework subjects. She was employed in the Virginia Beach School System as a reading teacher for the City Jail, and was a member of Star of The Sea Catholic Church in Virginia Beach.
Survivors include four sons and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Lawson of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., Mr. and Mrs. Michael A. Lawson of St. Louis, Mr. Steven E. Lawson and Mr. Jeffry A. Lawson, both of Virginia Beach; a sister, Mrs. Mary-Dick Digges of Williamsburg, Va.; and a grandson, Daniel Lawson of St. Louis; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Star of The Sea Catholic Church by the Rev. William V. Sullivan. Interment will be follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be held today at 7 p.m. in the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Nancy Bush Lawson Memorial Fund for the Library for the Virginia Beach City Jail, 128 S. Lynnhaven Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23452. All contributions will further her long-standing commitment to improve educational programs at the Virginia Beach City Jail.
