Jury selection will continue today in the trial of a 22-year-old Kill Devil Hills construction worker charged in the shooting death of his housemate.
Josh Hilliard Cathey faces a second-degree murder charge in the death on July 22, 1995, of Matthew S. Addelman, a waiter at Carolina Seafood.
Cathey also is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill in the wounding of Marine Reserve Cpl. Carlos Bonafonte.
Prosecutors allege that Cathey began firing a 9mm pistol during a dispute with Addelman. Authorities say Bonafonte tried to break up the fight, and was shot twice in the elbow.
Defense attorneys, however, are expected to claim that Cathey acted in self-defense.
First District Superior Court Judge Jerry Tillett is presiding in the trial, expected to last at least a week.
