EVERYDAY PEOPLE

I have read and reread Kerry Dougherty's Perspectives column of May 11. I am dismayed that a newspaper editorial writer would have such a cynical view of our ``governing-voting'' process.

She has painted all poll workers and politicians with the same brush.

Most poll workers, regardless of candidate, party or position, are just everyday people who believe in the ``cause.''

Most elected officials are trying to better the system.

I have worked inside and outside polls for more than 25 years, and I appreciate all the workers, for or against my view. It is enlightening to converse with all factions.

Ms. Dougherty could call the registrar in her city and work inside the polls as an officer of election, then give us another column on her views of the process.
