Princess Anne High School principal Pat Griffin wanted to show appreciation to all those who helped the school through a hectic year.
So she invited about 500 people who lent a hand after a Sept. 1 fire destroyed the school and closed it down for the school year.
``I don't know what we'd have done without the support we received from everyone,'' she said at a special appreciation day Tuesday. ``We had help from the business community, parents, leaders, other educators.''
To show gratitude, the school held an appreciation day at its temporary location, the old Celebration Station mall. The school chorus sang and the string ensemble played classical music. There was art work and a drama rehearsal. Speakers included Mayor Meyera Oberndorf, and the faculty filled tables in the band room with food.
Griffin said the school received about $103,000 from fund-raising efforts and donations, ranging from bake sales to corporate gifts. The school also received assistance in the form of school supplies, lesson plans, food, manpower and expertise, Griffin said. by CNB
