Michael D. Mezzapeso, 48, died May 20, 1996, in a Chesapeake hospital.
Mr. Mezzapeso, a native of Youngstown, Ohio, retired from the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer after 21 years of service. He worked for Telescopic Printing as production manager from 1985 to 1989. He was employed with Professional Printing in the Bindery Department from 1989 until his death. He was a Catholic. He was coach of Azalea Little League Baseball, Aragona-Pembroke Little League Baseball, and Tidewater Athletic Club Football. He was a member of Eastern Virginia Officials Association and umpire for eight years. He was also a member of Southeastern Officials Association and referee and umpire for five years in the Virginia High School League, football and baseball. Mr. Mezzapeso was involved in youth athletics for over 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Erlina A. Mezzapeso; five sons, Allan, James, Stephen, Peter, Richard Mezzapeso, all of Virginia Beach; his parents, Margaret Mezzapeso and Peter Mezzapeso, both of Las Vegas; a sister, Kathleen Volchko of Rio Rancho, N.M.; a brother, Stephen A. Mezzapeso of Poland, Ohio.
A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday by Father Paschal Kneip, O.S.B., at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Burial will be in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, today from 5 to 8 p.m. A Christian wake service will be held at the funeral home today at 7 p.m. Military honors will be accorded at the grave.
