JOHN E. PARTRIDGE

John Edward Partridge, 88, of 31048 Little Texas Road, died May 21, 1996, at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin.

A native of Southampton County, he was the son of the late William Allen and Frances Bettie Partridge. He was predeceased by his first wife of 51 years, Carroll Ellis Partridge. Mr. Partridge was a retired farmer and a merchant. He was a member of Persons United Methodist Church where he held several positions within the church. He was a charter member of Branchville Ruritan Club. He was well known in the local community for his love of fox hunting.

Mr. Partridge is survived by his wife, Kathryn S. Partridge of Branchville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean P. and Samuel B. Drewry and Joan P. and Jerry D. Rice, all of Boykins; five grandchildren, Dawn D. Nickerson and husband, Mike; Samuel B. ``Dee'' Drewry Jr. and wife, Cindy; John M. Drewry and wife, Kim; Douglas E. Rice and wife, Susan, and Susan R. Coburn and husband, Wayne; 10 great-grandchildren, Michael D. Nickerson Jr., Drewry E. Nickerson, Samuel B. Drewry III, Desty M. Heikens, Victoria W. Drewry, John Blake Drewry, Megan N. Drewry, Megan N. Coburn, Beau Nickerson, and Rachael Heikens. He is also survived by a sister, Louise H. Claud of Montress and nine nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, William, Allen, and Harry Partridge.

Funeral services will be held at Persons United Methodist Church on Friday at 11 a.m. with burial following in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. The family will receive friends at the residence today from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boykins Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad. Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
