ARTHUR M. WHITMORE

Arthur Maurice Whitmore, 62, of the 2600 block of Silverleaf Drive, died May 20, 1996.

He was retired from the U.S. Army in 1976 after 21 years and he was also retired from the Naval Air Station in 1994 after 15 years of service. He was a native of Norfolk and a member of St. Thomas AMEZ Church, Norfolk. Mr. Whitmore served in the Vietnam War.

He is survived by a daughter, Zunelda Whitmore of Chesapeake; five sisters, Thelma W. Sanders of Maryland, Betty Shannon of Nebraska, Merrynell Wilson of Chesapeake, Sheila Stephens of Virginia Beach and Natalie Martin of Norfolk; father, Ernest Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, an uncle, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Thelma and Oscar Wilson.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Friday by the Rev. G.L. Scott in St. Thomas AMEZ Church, Norfolk. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. The family will receive family and friends at Pretlow and Sons' Funeral Home, Chesapeake, today from 5 to 7 p.m. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
