An 11-year-old boy was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon when he was hit by a 1987 Dodge van in Virginia Beach, police spokesman Lou Thurston said.
The boy, who was not identified, was taken to the trauma center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. His condition was not available late Wednesday night.
The boy was skating through a crosswalk about 4:20 p.m. in the 4900 block of Providence Road near Providence Elementary School.
He did not have the cross signal, Thurston said.
The van, which had the green light, hit the boy, pinned him underneath and dragged him about 75 feet.
He was unconscious and suffering from severe head trauma and fractures when rescuers freed him.
