Fire officials said Wednesday that the fire that destroyed a Green Run High School classroom has been ruled as accidental.
Battalion Chief Chase Sargent said the human error was involved but the fire was not suspicious.
It was the fourth fire reported at a Virginia Beach school this school year.
The fire, which was reported about 7 p.m. Tuesday, forced 300 to 400 students to evacuate from night classes.
A 25-year-old security guard suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Virginia Beach General Hospital. No other injuries were reported.
Sargent estimated the physical damage to the classroom at $2,000, but that figure did not include replacing furniture or repairs.
