GRANTS AWARDED

The Portsmouth Museum and Fine Arts Commission, by the authority of the Portsmouth City Council, has approved the award of grants totaling $15,000 for programs in the arts and humanities.

Grants, ranging in amount from $750 to $3,000, were awarded to nine organizations that demonstrated outstanding arts-related services to the citizens of Portsmouth and Hampton Roads.

The Young Audiences of Virginia received $3,000; the Hurrah Players received $750; $2,000 was awarded to Virginia Symphony; $2,425 to the Little Theater of Portsmouth; $1,000 to Portsmouth Second Tuesday Forum Series; $825 to Virginia Children's Chorus; $1,000 to Tidewater Winds Orchestra; $3,000 to Portsmouth Community Concert Association and $1,000 to the Virginia Choral Society.

Grants were approved based on criteria established by the Museum and Fine Arts Commission, which included program objectives, need and projected affect Portsmouth's cultural environment. by CNB
