Family Services of Tidewater has received a $47,899 grant from the Beazley Foundation for the second year.
The purpose of the grant is to fund Street Smart, the agency's program to redirect young drug traffickers into legitimate interests and employment.
The funding permits Family Services to continue providing constructive alternatives to individuals with demonstrated entrepreneurial skills.
Street Smart participants are usually referred by the courts after a first-time conviction for drug trafficking. The typical participant is intelligent with considerable business and mathematics skills. With effort and time they generally find satisfaction in adapting their skills to legitimate business enterprises.
Family Services is a non-profit United Way agency. by CNB
