DON'T THROW AWAY CURBSIDE RECYCLING

Two weeks ago, I voted. I was pleased with the results and yet I am still in limbo, as I was before the voting. Who on City Council will stand up for and bring back the curbside recycling program of which I am so proudly a member?

For years I have been an active member of the Southeastern Public Service Authority's curbside recycling league. I am concerned about what is going to happen in July and do not want to see the hard work of SPSA or the city go into the trash.

I know for myself that my day-to-day schedule is too hectic for running down to a drop off center with a car full of smelly recyclables and I doubt my neighbors are either. For years, SPSA has trained us to put out our recyclables with our trash. A year ago or so, SPSA trained us to put the recyclables out every other week. That at first was hard to remember, and then hard to keep things from flying out of the bin, but in the end, was accepted and now very easy.

What I don't understand is why the council would adopt a budget without the curbside plan and still advertise regionalism! If Virginia Beach is not recycling, and all the surrounding cities/counties are. . . then how is that regionalism? If any of the councilmen/women support curbside recycling, come out with it! Stand up for it. Your city wants it and your mayor should not be embarrassed to change her mind. I support you all - as I did last week when I voted. Please support your community and give us back curbside recycling.
