Contrary to all the letters you have received denouncing the discontinuance of SPSA curbside collection, I for one applaud the decision!
Consider the plight of people like myself, who live in a small townhouse on a small cul-de-sac street who have to contend along with other responsible homeowners, the people who are usually renters that keep their trash cans in their small front yards, but now also those huge, ugly blue baskets are cluttering the street. For days after rubbish collection the street is littered with containers.
I can't even lift those awkward baskets. Being an elderly lady, I prefer to put my recyclables in light bags taking them at least once a week, sometimes twice to the many city igloos which I have always found clean and convenient. Therefore, I do not have trash accumulating in my yard for two weeks attracting heaven knows what vermin.
Also, I refuse to pay $1 which seems small for a service I do not want or use. Actually, that $1 is a tax and we all know once a tax always a tax, soon a higher tax, etc.
Good citizens will continue to recycle without the SPSA. Thank you, Virginia Beach City Council.
