Benjamin ``Bro'' Dean, 65, of the 1600 block of Elm Ave., died May 20, 1996, at Hampton Veterans Hospital.
Mr. Dean, a native of Portsmouth, retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a pipefitter. He was a former member of St. John Baptist Church, Portsmouth. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a former outstanding athlete at Norcom High School.
Survivors include a daughter, Benita Dean Hopkins of Fremont, Calif.; a son, Collis P. Dean of Miami, Fla.; a sister, Lenora Dean of Portsmouth; four grandchildren; a son-in-law, Rev. Kenneth Hopkins; two aunts; an uncle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday by the Rev. John E. Jones at St. John Baptist Church. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake, with military honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. today. The family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 8 p.m. The family will alsobe at 1365 Glyndon Drive, Virginia Beach, and will assemble at the funeral home at 12:15 p.m. Saturday for the procession to the church.
