Helen Louise Murphy, 58, of the 2400 block of W. Bugle Drive, died May 23, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital.
She was a native of Nags Head, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Markus R. Johnson Sr. and Nellie Baum Baringer of Rhode Island. She was the widow of Michael J. Murphy.
Survivors include two daughters, Tammy McCormack of Portsmouth, Deborah Copeland of Chesapeake; a son, Edward Copeland of Chesapeake; four sisters, Jacqueline N. Marshburn of Chesapeake, Wanda L. Powell of Bellhaven, N.C., Frances M. Creasy and Juanita I. Irwin, both of Chesapeake; two brothers, Markus R. Johnson Jr. of Bellhaven, John Baringer Jr. of Rhode Island; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Samantha, Stephen, Brandon, Kristen; and a great-grandchild, Stormy. She was predeceased by a son, Michael J. Murphy II.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. Gene V. Primm at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m.
