BLAND A. VESTAL

Bland A. Vestal, 85, died Thursday, May 23, 1996, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was for 63 years the husband of Gerda Paur Vestal.

Born Feb. 24, 1911, in Randolph County, N.C., he was a son of the late Alfred Manuel and Ella Stone Vestal. He was a retired traffic engineer with C.L. Philpots Inc. of Norfolk, a former member of Kempsville Ruritan Club, a former deacon at New Hope Baptist Church and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a brother and sister, Joe V. Vestal and Margaret D'Aras. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and their wives, Joseph B. and Donna Vestal of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Paul D. and Jeanie Vestal of D'Aras; three daughters and their husbands, Jeanne V. and Carl Hellstrom of Virginia Beach, Linda V. and William Spruill of Chesapeake and Valerie V. and Granville Graham of Lynchburg; a sister, Ella Maie Miller of Cape May, N.J.; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Beulah Baptist Church with the Rev. Grover Putnum and the Rev. Ron Pegram. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel and, at other times, will be at the residence.
