Wilmer Turner Carter, 89, of 10330 Park St., died Friday, May 24, 1996, at his residence.
He was a native of Isle of Wight County and retired in 1975 from the seafood industry with 50 years of service. Mr. Carter was a member of Battery Park Baptist Church. He was a charter and former member of the Rescue-Battery Park Ruritan Club, and a member of the Thomas Nelson Jr. Chapter of the Sons' of the American Revolution.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alice Scott Carter and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Battery Park Baptist Church by the Rev. Joe A. Olson, Dr. Raleigh O. Baker and the Rev. Jarvis M. Hearn Jr. Interment will follow in St. Luke's Memorial Park, Smithfield. The family will receive friends at the residence, 10330 Park St., and suggest memorial contributions be made to Battery Park Baptist Church, P.O. Box 58, Battery Park, Va. 23304, or Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 97, Smithfield, Va. 23431. Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, is in charge.
