Verlon E. Newman, 59, of the 2100 block of Admiral Drive West, died May 24, 1996, in Virginia Beach.
Mr. Newman was born in Mousie, Ky. He was a retired warrant officer in the Marine Corps and was a veteran of Korea, the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam. He was also retired from Beverly Enterprises and was a member of Spring Branch Community Church in Virginia Beach.
Survivors include three daughters, Tedi Newman of Johnson City, Tenn., Heather Newman of Lincolnton, N.C., and Allison Newman of Hopewell, Va.; three sisters, Maxine Goble of Prestonsburg, Ky., Iva Crutcher and Jan Montgomery, both of Kentucky; a granddaughter, Skylar Gosnell of Johnson City, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Chuck Newman and Bryant Newman, and a sister, Katherine Newman.
A funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, by the Rev. Michael Simone. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. The family will greet friends before and after the service, beginning at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
