ELLA HAMILTON BARCO

Dr. Ella Hamilton Barco of the 900 block of Anna St., departed this life May 23, 1996, in Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk.

Dr. Barco, a native of Norfolk, retired from Norfolk State University as a math professor. Dr. Barco attended the Norfolk public schools and graduated with honors from Booker T. Washington High School. Her undergraduate work was done at Fisk University, Nashville, Tenn., and graduate work at New York University and the University of Michigan, and doctorate work at the University of Florida.

Dr. Barco was the daughter of the late Rev. Dr. Walter L. Hamilton Sr. and Mrs. Marie Hamilton. She was the widow of attorney William Barco.

Survivors include a daughter, Renee Barco of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Paul J. Hamilton, and his wife Joan of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, Dana and Dena of Norfolk and Shawn of Chesapeake; nieces, Glenda Williams of Greensboro, N.C., and Valeria Claud of Virginia Beach; nephews, Paul J. Hamilton Jr. of Norfolk, Walter Hamilton III of Herndon, Va., and Keith Hamilton of Provo, Utah; a foster brother, Cleveland Varner; and many other relatives and friends. Dr. Barco was predeceased by her sister, Lois Carter, and brothers, Walter II, John and Andrew Hamilton.

Dr. Barco was one of the founders of the Prince and Princess Club and was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Also, Dr. Barco was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Norfolk.

A homegoing service will be held Wednesday at noon at Shiloh Baptist Church, where the Rev. Dr. John H. Foster will preside. The remains will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Entombment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will assemble at the residence the day of the service. Graves Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
