Today's Memorial Day events include:
PORTSMOUTH
Memorial Day parade, 10 a.m. A 60-unit parade featuring nine bands will march down London Boulevard from the site of the new I.C. Norcom High School to Crawford Street.
Naval Medical Center service, 9 a.m. Cemetery on the hospital grounds is the burial place of 150 men who served in most of the nation's wars.
Cedar Grove Cemetery will dedicate a new memorial to those who built and manned the Civil War ironclad CSS Virginia, 2 p.m. Tours will be led after the ceremony.
NORFOLK
Veterans service, 11 a.m. Forest Lawn Cemetery. Members of the 29th Infantry Division will gather at the 29th Division Memorial Monument.
VIRGINIA BEACH
Memorial Day service, 9:30 to 10:30. Rosewood Memorial Park.
Citizens vigil, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A five-hour vigil will be held at Tidewater Veterans Memorial, 19th Steet. Formal program starts at noon with 21-gun salute, followed by a keynote address by Rep. Owen B. Pickett, and ending with a military flyover.
CHESAPEAKE
Memorial Day service, 11 a.m. The third annual service will be held in Chesapeake City Park, 500 Greenbrier Parkway.
SUFFOLK
Cedar Hill Cemetery Memorial Day service, 11 a.m. Ceremony will be held at the cemetery's North Main Street entrance. CLOSINGS
Banks/savings and loans: All schools, banks, city offices and courts will be closed.
Garbage collection: Portsmouth will have regular collection. Chesapeake will collect on Wednesday and Suffolk will be one day behind. Norfolk and Virginia Beach do not collect on Mondays.
Recycling collection: Portsmouth will have regular collection.
Postal service: There will be no regular delivery today.
State offices: ABC stores around the state will be closed today.
