WRECK INJURES 2

Two brothers were seriously injured Sunday afternoon when the car they were riding in flipped several times and hit a tree, state police said.

Michael R. Horne, 17, and his brother Billy, whose age was not available, both had emergency surgery and were in serious condition Sunday night. The driver of the car, William Kent Schenck, 18, was the only one wearing a seat belt and was not seriously injured. All three are from Isle of Wight County.

The accident occurred about 1:25 p.m. as the 1993 Honda was traveling eastbound on Va. Route 669, one mile west of Route 668 in Isle of Wight County. The car was going about 70 mph in a 45-mile zone when Schenck lost control, police said, causing the car to flip several times. Michael Horne, the front seat passenger, was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center on the Peninsula.

Billy Horne was in the back seat. He was airlifted by Nightingale Air Ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Police said no alcohol was involved.
