Dorothy Poythress Dixon, 78, of 20 Caribbean Ave., died Monday, May 27, 1996, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.
A native of Wilson, N.C., she had lived in Portsmouth most of her life and in Virginia Beach for the past 17 years. She was the wife of Major Elton Dixon. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Virginia Beach, assistant Sunday school teacher of the Mary Martha Class, and was a member of the Mizpah Class. She retired in 1973 after 20 years as owner of Dixon's Hairstyling Salon in Portsmouth. She was a former member of Alexander Baptist Church.
In addition to her loving husband, Major, she is survived by two daughters, Joyce Parker of Virginia Beach, Patricia Yoder and her husband, Fred of Portsmouth; a son, Jack Parker and his wife, Ellen, of Chesapeake; a granddaughter, Chessney Barrick; and three grandsons, Brad, Matthew and James Yoder.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church of Virginia Beach, 35th and Holly Road, by the Rev. Ted James. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Portsmouth. The family will receive friends in Maestas Funeral Home, Baltic Avenue Chapel, today from 7 to 9 p.m.
