JOHN H. COVEY

John H. Covey, 61, died unexpectedly Sunday at his home.

He was the husband of Judith M. Covey. Born in Helena, Mont., he was the son of the late Howard W. and Leona Hartman Covey. Mr. Covey was retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 20 years and was employed with AlliedSignal in Bermuda at the NASA Tracking Station for 17 years. For the past nine months, he has been with AlliedSignal in Portsmouth. Mr. Covey had been active with the Boy Scouts of America and currently with the Virginia Beach Recreation Softball program as an umpire. As an active golfer, he was a member of St. George's Golf Club in Bermuda and most recently enjoyed the local golf courses.

He is also survived by daughter, Sheila Hunt Brozo and her husband, Martin Brozo; sons, David Scott Hunt, Jeffrey Hunt and Ian Covey; four grandsons and a granddaughter. He will be sadly missed by his close friends and golfing partner, Bill Borree of St. George's Bermuda.

A Liturgy of the Resurrection service will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Church of the Ascension Catholic Church with the Rev. James E. Parke officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors accorded on June 4, 1996, at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday at 11 a.m. until the funeral hour. Flowers may be sent or memorial donations made to the Kempsville Rescue Squad Station (NU)9, P.O. Box 62345, Virginia Beach, 23462. Altmeyer Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
