MARGARET BRAITHWAITE

Margaret Braithwaite, a native of Norfolk and a long-time resident of East Bayshore Drive, Virginia Beach, died April 19, 1996, in Fairfax at the home of her son, after a short illness. She was 85.

Born Margaret Elizabeth Bingham, Mrs. Braithwaite was the daughter of Frederick Ferrin Bingham and Margaret Phelps Bingham, late of 1810 Bourbon Ave., Norfolk. She was a graduate of Maury High School and completed her nurse's training at Norfolk General Hospital.

Mrs. Braithwaite and her late husband, Thomas G., were lifelong members of Eastern Shore Chapel, Virginia Beach. She was also active in the Princess Anne Circle of the King's Daughters.

She is survived by three sons, Jon Ferrin of Atlanta, William Thomas of Annapolis and Michael Rainey of Fairfax. She had 11 grandchildren, Jon, David Thomas, Mathew, David William, Daniel, Thomas, Jonathan, George Michael, Michael Christopher, Paul and Elizabeth; and three step-grandchildren, Sondra, Brian and Mark.

Also surviving are brother, Arthur, and four sisters, Mary Layne, Lucy Morrow, Freda Bingham, and Emma Anderson. Two brothers, G. Preston, and F. Girard, died earlier, and one, Edward, died the day after Mrs. Braithwaite.

The body was cremated and the ashes will be buried June 1 at Eastern Shore Chapel following a Memorial Celebration and brunch hosted by family and friends at the Parish Hall.

The family asks that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, Norfolk, or the Music Fund, Eastern Shore Chapel.
