Shirley Evans Myers, formerly of Norfolk, died May 28, 1996, in her home. She was the widow of Gage Tarbell Myers.
Mrs. Myers was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Norfolk. She was a member of the Old Dominion 100 Chapter of the Eastern Star, and Social Order of Beauceant Kedive Temple. She was the first woman to serve as president of the Tidewater Veterans Association. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3160, and American Legion Auxiliary 327. Mrs. Myers had done more than 2,000 hours of volunteer work at Hampton Veterans Hospital.
Mrs. Myers graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk and attended the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary. She formerly wrote a weekly column, ``Veterans Corner,'' for The Virginian-Pilot. She retired from the Public Relations Department of Norfolk Newspapers.
Survivors include a daughter, Louise M. White of Virginia Beach; a son, Henry L. Myers of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Margaret C. Barlow of Winchester, Va.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday at the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road Chapel, by the Rev. Clark Mandigo. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m.
