Mabel Cathey Walter, 92, a former resident of the Ballentine Home in Norfolk, died May 29, 1996, in a Virginia Beach Nursing Home.
Mrs. Walter was a native of Roanoke, Va., and was the daughter of the late Alonzo F. Cathey and Anne Hipp Cathey. She was the widow of George E. Walter. She retired in 1977 as the corporate secretary of the Norfolk Coca-Cola Bottling Works Inc., and had resided in Exmore, Va., from 1939 to 1982. Mrs. Walter was a member of the DAR, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and was a past member and president of the Women's Club of the Eastern Shore of Virginia. She was a member of Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, and a former longtime member of Belle Haven Presbyterian Church in Belle Haven, Va.
Survivors include her son, George W. Walter; a grandson, Edwin G. Walter, both of Virginia Beach; a granddaughter, Cathey W. Brown and her husband, Marshall J. Brown of Richmond; and two great-grandchildren, Julie E. Brown and Andrew M. Brown of Richmond.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Mount Holly Cemetery, Onancock, by the Rev. Dr. Donald R. Broad. Arrangements are being handled by Williams Onancock Funeral Home, Onancock, Va.
