Capt. David Shelton Clark, U.S. Army (Ret.), 75, died May 29, 1996.
Mr. Clark, a retired housing consultant, worked for the U.S. Army for 20 years. He was a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., and a member of Bayside Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Meadville, Pa. High School in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945 during which he landed at Normandy and in Southern France. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and Remagen crossing of the Rhine River. He received a direct commission from the U.S. Army. He was recalled to active duty for the Korean Conflict and retired 5000th General Headquarters, Military Railway Service in 1963.
He received his bachelor of arts degree from Allegheny College in Pennsylvania in 1948 and a master of arts degree from Indiana University in 1950. He was town manager of Tappahannock, Va., the planning administrator of Henrico County, Va., the state director of planning for the state of Florida, the director of planning and redevelopment for Harrisonburg, Va., finance director of National Association of Home Builders, and vice president of United Mortgage Service Corporation in Virginia Beach. From 1963 to 1989 he was a housing consultant specializing in group homes for the mentally retarded and developmentally disabled, HUD housing for the elderly, and low to moderate income family housing. Mr. Clark was a retired member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and was charter president of the Shenandoah Valley Civil War Roundtable. He moved to Virginia Beach in 1989 and joined the real estate firm of Withers and Taylor Company.
Survivors include his wife, Monetta Collins Clark; a daughter, Beth Hilton of Pittsburgh, Pa.; five sons, Michael D. Clark of Dallas, Texas, Stephen D. Clark of Atlanta, Timothy D. Clark of Virginia Beach, Alan D. Clark of Ft. Belvoir, Va., Jack B. Clark of Manassas, Va.; a sister, Leanna Smith of Sarasota, Fla.; two brothers, William C. Lindsay of Cleveland, Ga., John L. Clark of Long Beach, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday by the Rev. Will Kiser-Lowrance at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. A graveside service will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at 9 a.m. Tuesday June 4, 1996. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 388, Norfolk, Va. 23507. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 10 to 11 a.m.
