Regarding commentary on the lack of media accountability and judgment in reporting Adm. Jeremy Boorda's right to wear combat V's, the real question is why aren't the media going after stories that truly deserve this kind of investigative effort?
Come on, Newsweek and print media in general: Dig into some issues that are of genuine importance to the American people, especially in a presidential election year.
How about President Clinton's failure to control China's destructive nuclear proliferation program, or the administration's enigmatic legal philosophy (executive privilege for Travelgate?). What about the Supreme Court usurping the power of the U.S. Constitution, specifically states' rights as in the 6-3 decision on gay rights in Colorado?
Such issues deserve the in-depth research that Newsweek and National Security News Service judged Admiral Boorda's alleged wrongful wearing of medals warranted. I don't think we'll see it this year though. The media worked too hard to get Bill Clinton elected; now they are loath to delve into the closet full of skeletons that is his administration.
