ART GROUP GETS GRANTS

Pocosin Arts in Columbia has received two grant awards. A $25,000 award was received from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation of Winston-Salem, and a $19,000 grant in the amount of $19,900 was received from the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources Local Cultural and Artistic Organizations Grant Program.

Pocosin Arts officials also said that Board of Directors Vice President Shawnda Rodgers attended a national conference of The Association of American Cultures in St. Louis May 30 and June 1. Funding for Rodgers' trip was granted by the North Carolina Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Rodgers is a teacher in the Bertie County School system and has served on the Pocosin Arts Board of Directors since July 1994.

Pocosin Arts, a private, non-profit educational organization, is offering adult and family classes this summer.
