BABY FAIR DESIGNED FOR NEW MOTHERS

Chesapeake General Hospital will conduct its fourth annual Baby Fair June 9 to help women learn what the hospital has to offer expectant and new mothers.

The Baby Fair is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. in the hospital's atrium lobby.

``Women who are planning to deliver at the hospital will have a chance to become more familiar with surroundings and the people who will be helping them during their pregnancy and afterward, too,'' said Darcy W. Cromer, coordinator of the Women's Health Center.

The fair will include demonstrations, speakers, tours and exhibits.

There will be demonstrations of Gymboree, a program that teaches infant and toddler exercise and socialization in classes designed for both mother and child.

Obstetricians Charles W. Pinnell III, Holly S. Puritz and Margie Corney will speak on topics such as pain relief during labor, when to have your next baby, concerns after the baby is born and parenting skills.

There will be tours of the hospital's labor, delivery and postpartum areas, and health education material and baby wares on display. There will also be door prizes and a raffle.

The Baby Fair is also scheduled as a part of the hospital's 10-year anniversary of the BirthPlace, a specialized birth and delivery area of the hospital.

Although Chesapeake General opened in 1976, it did not add obstetrical services until June 1986. Since that time, more than 22,000 babies have been born at the hospital. by CNB
