FLORENCE J. HEDGES

Florence J. Hedges

NORFOLK - Born Oct. 11, 1919, in New York City, Jane Hedges, whose stage name was Jan Richards, starred in many Broadway productions from 1933 to the early 1940s. She died May 29, 1996.

She continued her career in Hollywood, Calif., and also in Kaneohe, Hawaii, where she was also known as an accomplished artist and sculptor. Her finest role was as the loved matriarch of her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Jane of Norfolk and Carol Jane of Kallua, Hawaii; and her cousin and closest friend, Olive Pridgen. She was blessed with six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who will miss her and remember her as a talented woman who lived with great dignity and will be thought of always with love.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Norfolk. The family suggests that flowers be omitted and memorial donations be made to the Outreach Program of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 201 St. Paul's Blvd., Norfolk 23510. The ashes will be taken to Hawaii to be scattered at sea. The family will receive friends at the church following the services. Twiford Funeral, Ghent Chapel, has charge of arrangements.
