Mattie Cotton ``Susie'' Archer, 88, of the 1100 block of Melvin Drive, died June 1, 1996, in Portsmouth.
Mrs. Archer was born in Suffolk and was the widow of C. Edward Archer. She was a member of Sweethaven Baptist Church and retired in 1984 as a deputy from the Portsmouth Sheriff's Department.
Survivors include two daughters, Ida F. Winslow of Suffolk and Sara J. Spears of Portsmouth; two sons, George E. Archer and Harry C. Archer, both of Portsmouth; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, by the Rev. Damon E. Wyatt. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial donations may be made to the Jail Ministry Fund for the Portsmouth City Jail, c/o Portsmouth City Jail, Portsmouth, Va. 23707.
