Kempsville and Kellam high-school soccer teams met to determine the regional championship. While both teams advanced to the state level, much was at stake with the game. The winning team would play its next game at home, the loser having to travel to Northern Virginia for its game.
Kellam won a hard-fought victory in a shootout. During the awards ceremony, the Kempsville players and coaches stood alongside the Kellam players and applauded them during the trophy presentation. This act of great sportsmanship did not go unnoticed by the Kellam players, coaches and parents.
Coach Denson, his staff and players are to be commended for a first-class display of sportsmanship.
