Mittie E. Demby, of the 1400 block of Atlantic Ave., died June 1, 1996, at Chesapeake General Hospital.
Mrs. Demby, a stencil cutter and packer, retired from Norfolk Naval Supply Center in 1974 after 35 years of service. She was born in Norfolk County and was a member of Providence United Church of Christ, Chesapeake. She was a member of the senior choir. Mrs. Demby was the widow of Roy Demby.
Survivors include a daughter, Harrita Walston of Anderson, Ind.; five stepsons, Roy Demby Jr., Harry C. Demby and James E. Demby of Chesapeake, Horace Demby of Portsmouth and Joseph Demby of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Lenora P. Felton of Chesapeake, Elouise Lawton of Radcliff, Ky.; 28 grandchildren; and many other surviving relatives and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. Dr. Alexander Jamison at Providence United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Thursday. Fitchett Funeral Home is in charge. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
